Conservative Alternatives to the Woke Big Banks

We all have a bank or a credit union (unless you’ve gone completely off the grid and are storing cash under your mattress—in which case, I salute you). And your choice of financial institution has substantial impacts on the community around you.

Everything in this world that you do and don’t like has been funded in some way by banks. From various social movements to large-scale industrial projects, everything was backed by some form of loan originator. And the bank funds those projects using your deposited savings (more or less) from your hard earned cash.

I don’t want to undersell it—where you store your money is responsible for initiatives happening right now. It’s up to you to determine what you want to fund and how your money is being used.

You might not care about every issue from gender ideology to political activism—that’s fine. But you do care about something; otherwise, you wouldn’t be here reading this. While we can’t decide what’s important for you, we can help you find a conservative alternative to your current bank or credit union—one that aligns with your principles or, at the very least, doesn’t work against them – and finding a neutral bank might be more realistic and easier than finding an actively conservative one.

Why Your Choice of Bank Matters

Choosing where you bank isn’t just about convenience—it’s a powerful statement of your values. Every dollar you deposit can either support causes you oppose or promote the principles you stand for.

Whether you’re religious or not this statement stands, it says in the Bible:

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:21

Credit Unions: The Obvious Alternative

Credit unions exist purely to serve their members. They typically offer a range of loan products, including home loans, auto loans, and personal loans. If you’re a conservative, there’s a good chance you’re often better off with a credit union, and your search for an alternative can end here – if you find one that aligns with your values. For a list of credit unions in your state, visit the National Credit Union Administration’s website at www.ncua.gov.

However, as a warning, not all credit unions are free from the woke agenda. In some places, especially in blue cities like Austin, credit unions can be just as woke as the big banks. So, you need to dig deeper and not just rely on the fact that it’s a credit union. There’s a particular credit union associated with Universities in Austin (that I won’t directly name out of fear of legalities) that supports everything from DEI to LGBTQ+ (insert more acronyms).

How to Evaluate a Credit Union

So, how do you make sure your financial institution isn’t working against you? Here’s how:

    1. Visit Their “About Us” Page:
Check their mission and values on their website. A lot of the times they will clearly and proudly state the liberal policies they support.
    2. Look for Woke Agendas:
DEI might be important to some, but as conservatives, we prefer institutions that focus on member services and traditional values. If they’re emphasizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) over serving their members, they probably don’t align with your values. Typically, DEI is mentioned in their careers section, so it’s worthwhile to visit that page if they have it.
    3. Check Their Social Media:
Review their social media posts. If they’re more focused on Pride Month than on providing excellent banking services, you have a problem. Again, they will typically loudly and proudly state their liberal policies.
    4. Contact Them Directly:
When in doubt, call and ask about their principles. Let them know what you stand for and that you’re looking for a financial institution that aligns with your values.

Sample questions:

      • “What are your institution’s core values?”
      • “How do you ensure that member funds are used in ways that align with conservative principles?”

If you’re not the confrontational type, I recommend the above questions. If you’re more confrontational, ask them directly what policies they support, like their stance on ESG investing, social justice initiatives, or political advocacy.

Banks as Alternatives

Sometimes you just need a bank, as they can offer better services like advanced mobile apps, online support, or more branch locations. If you require more convenience, then maybe a traditional bank is right for you—just make sure that “traditional” also means conservative. Fortunately, there are still options out there.

Most of the largest big banks support agendas that don’t align with conservative values. If you’re in the South, you might be fortunate to find banks that share your beliefs. If not, use the same vetting process as mentioned above with credit unions.

And at the end of the day, try to remember that even if it means sacrificing some convenience or advanced technology when choosing your bank, for a lot of us it is worth it to ensure that your money isn’t supporting causes you don’t agree with. Big banks may offer better tech, but they also often back agendas that conflict with our values. Be careful when choosing.

Research Resources

Mighty Deposits

A bank comparison site that breaks down public data about how banks use their money and who owns them. While the site might lean liberal, it still has filters that can help conservatives—for example, filtering banks and credit unions by business lending, housing, etc.

  • How to Use It: On Mighty Deposits, select filters that focus on business lending or housing to find institutions that support conservative economic growth.

OpenSecrets

This site shows a breakdown of the political contributions of people and political action committees associated with commercial banks, and how much of these contributions go to different political parties. You can compare Democrat and Republican spending here.

  • How to Use It: Visit OpenSecrets.org and search for your bank to see where their political contributions are going.

Conclusion: Rallying Together with Our Banking Dollars

There are several options for finding conservative alternatives to woke big banks and some credit unions. As conservatives, we might have to do a little more digging, but knowing your money is in the right hands is worth the effort.

The left has become extremely good at rallying together; let’s do the same with our banking dollars. By consciously choosing where we bank, we can collectively promote the principles we stand for. After all, what’s a little inconvenience compared to ensuring our money doesn’t support agendas that don’t align with our values?

Remember, your money is your power. By making informed decisions about where you shop, bank, and spend your time, you can contribute to a marketplace that reflects and respects conservative values.
